What’s the water level like?

http://buffalorivergeoscience.org/flow/

The above are two good links to get a current feel for the river compared to year’s past when we just measured by airspace under Ponca’s low water bridge.

We are all set - Buffalo 2018

Gentlemen,

Happy to report we are 99% green.  The good people of Jasper are very excited and from my visits with many of you while picking up your t-shirts so are we.  Because this trip has produced so many wonderful memories for us over the years our growing enthusiasm is easily explained. I have spoken to many of our sons who have now matured into adults -  these trips with their Dad - have produced some of their best memories of their youth.  The great thing is, this trip produces those lifetime memories no matter the conditions we experience in Jasper.  It’s a fact, you just can’t get this many great fathers and sons together with the sole purpose of “making memories”  and not actually make memories.

Familiarize yourself with the trip itinerary.  For those in the Gordon - email me back if you would like your room for Thursday night too - I will leave your key in the door.

Thank you for joining us!  Buffalo 2018 will be “Glorious”!  Can’t wait to see ya’ll in Jasper!

Buffalo 2018 T-Shirts Available for Pickup

Gentlemen,

The latest in adventure travel apparel is now available for pickup at The Founder’s office in City Hall.  This year’s design features canoeists, cliff jumpers, Big Foot and a memorial cross honoring the legendary Mr. Gordon.  All of that is featured on a faded blue jean comfort color t-shirt.

Our travel shirts are known for their comfort. What is so Glorious is that their comfort level keeps getting better with each and every wash.  For over 20 years our shirts have been a must pack item for iron men while traveling.  Whether at home or abroad, our shirts provide the comfort and style iron men demand.  Every year our shirts are “limited editions” celebrating and memorializing another life chapter in the lives of our great fathers and sons.  If you ordered a shirt please come by so that your son can start wearing his today!

Pickup Friday:  9-12; 1-3
Pickup Monday:  9-12; 1-4

Review the Itinerary - don’t miss departure times

Our Trip Itinerary…

Except for the addition of our Friday morning hike the trip’s itinerary has remained the same for twenty two years.

FRIDAY, APRIL 20, 2018

7:45 A.M. -  Meet at the Gordon Motel for caravanning to this year’s exciting hiking trail.  This is a recent addition to our trip for those arriving on Thursday.  Our recent hiking venues have been excellent and I would encourage you and your son to join us.

1:30 P.M. - Meet at the Gordon Motel to gather paddles and life jackets.

1:50 P.M. - Mandatory Safety Lecture.

2:00 P.M.  - Load Gordon buses for our 7 mile warm up float from Pruitt to Hasty.  Depending on your pace, and there is no rush, this float may last anywhere from 2 - 4 1/2 hours.  Shuttles will be waiting at the end of the float to transport you back to the Gordon Motel.

Evening:  Jasper has many fine, affordable eateries but there are few better than the Ozark Cafe.  The Ozark Cafe is under new ownership this year, but I am confident that they will gear up and will meet our needs for fine cuisine.  Where ever you decide to eat try to do so before 8:00 p.m. as most establishments are rolled up with the streets at this time.

After supper, join the Founder around a roaring fire in the yard of the Gordon Motel.

SATURDAY, APRIL 21, 2018

8:30 A.M. - I need everyone dressed and ready at the Gordon.

8:50 A.M. -  Mandatory group photo.

9:00 A.M. -  Load buses and depart for our all day float.  Steele Creek to Kyles Landing, 8 miles;  to Irby, 12 miles (strive for this); and for extreme Iron Men, on to Pruitt which is 21 miles.

11:30 P.M. - 1:00 P.M.:  Many will be gathering at the beautiful Giant Jumping Cliff.  The Cliff is a favorite place to have lunch.  Shortly, after leaving the Cliff I encourage all first timers to pull off and hike the short distance to see the Hemmed In Hollow waterfall.

3:30 P.M. - Until Dark:  Shuttles will be available to return you to the Gordon Motel.  Remember, many food establishments will be closing at 8:00 p.m.

7:30 P.M. until Wee hours join me and others at the Gordon Campfire to discuss the day.
